Why Bracelets are the Perfect Accessory

Bracelets are a type of accessory that many people overlook. While many jewelry sets contain earrings and necklaces, bracelets often have to be purchased separately. Maybe that's the reason why many people ignore bracelets altogether. Many people also wear men's watches or women's watches and mistakenly assume that bracelets cannot be worn with a watch.

In fact, bracelets have been around for many thousands of years. Archaeologists have found bracelets in Egyptian tombs that date back to 5000 B.C. For the ancient Egyptians, bracelets seem to have had religious significance. The circular shape of the bracelet represented rebirth and regeneration, and many mummies were buried with scarab bracelets wrapped into their linen bandages.

Thousands of years ago in Latin America, bracelets were seen as a way to ward off the evil eye. Newborn babies were dressed with a golden bracelet with a read or black symbol on it. This bracelet, known as azabache, protected the infant from evil.

In Bulgaria, some traditions involve tying a red and white string around the wrist to encourage spring to come sooner. In India, bangles and bracelets worn by women still can sometimes denote marital status.

Of course, bracelets do not have to have religious or cultural significance in order to be enjoyed. Many people adore wearing a variety of bracelets styles, each with their own unique style statements:

1) Tennis bracelet. A thin bracelet made of a line of diamonds was first named in 1987, when tennis player Chris Evert accidentally broke the thin line of diamonds she was wearing on her wrist during a match. The game was interrupted so that Evert could recover the jewelry. The incident led to the bracelet being dubbed the 'tennis bracelet'.

2) Charm bracelet. A charm bracelet is a wonderful way to personalize a bracelet. When first bought at the jewelry store, a charm bracelet is nothing but a link of chains. Over time, though, the wearer adds trinkets, pendants, and other small charms, which are often used to represent important things in a person's life. Recently, Italian charm bracelets have become popular. These do not include dangling charms, but instead include individual trinkets that are soldered flat into a link.

3) Bangles. They will bracelets are a solid form of bracelets. They can be set with stones, can be polished smooth, or can be textured. These bracelets can be made with almost any material, from glass to precious metals. Bangles can be wide or thin, and when worn in groups on the arm can make a dramatic and modern statement. They can also create movement and a sound that is pleasant to hear.

4) Cuff bracelets. Cuff bracelets look like bangles, but fit securely around the arm or are fitted around the wrist. Cuff bracelets can be thick or thin, and come in every sort of style and are made from every sort of material you can imagine. Cuff bracelets can look elegant and modern -- when a wide gold cuff is used -- or young and edgy -- when a leather cuff is worn.
